Chipping in for Abbi: Flynn Energy Holds Fourth Annual Golf Tournament

Over 30 corporate teams came out to show their support for Abbi Brown – a four year old child battling Leigh’s Syndrome – in the 4th Annual Flynn Energy Golf Tournament. The tournament was held at the Towanda Country Club featuring over 120 golfers making up a field.

In addition to a perfect day of Flynn Energy also treated their guests to a steak dinner courtesy of Great Plains Oil Field with the sides prepared by Jocelyn Flynn. Justin Raynor provided the entertainment singing and playing cover songs from various music era’s and genre’s.

Each year Flynn Energy picks a local family in need to donate the proceeds of the tournament to. This years benefit theme ‘Chipping in for Abbi’ raised money and awareness for Towanda’s own Abbi Brown. When Abbi was 18 months old it became apparent that she had stopped growing. After months of testing, and extended hospital stays she was diagnosed with Leigh’s Syndrome, a rare mitochondrial disease that prevents your body from producing energy.

“What people don’t realize is that a lot of things that people take for granted we have to fight to get done,” Abbi’s father Chris said, “Nothing can prepare a family to watch their child struggle so much each day.”

Fortunately for Abbi an experimental treatment through Akron Children’s Hospital has allowed her to fight the disease beyond her initial expectancy two years.

“Words really can’t tell you how much Flynn Energy, E.J. and Jocelyn Flynn’s support means to my family. They are truly remarkable people.” Abbi’s father Chris Brown said.
