Towanda, PA – An emotional EJ Flynn stood in front of a tired crowd of golfers Friday afternoon to thank them for their generous support of Mason Barto, the recipient of Flynn Energy’s eighth annual Charity Golf Tournament.
“I’d like to thank all of you for coming out here to support Mason and his family. He’s an amazing young man. Our community is full of loving, generous people. Today we’ve given Mason hope. And that’s something I hope we all take away today… to always have hope. We’ve given Mason some hope today.”
Mason was diagnosed with congenital disorder of glycosylation (CDG) at a young age, and continues to require surgeries and treatment. The funds raised Friday through on-course games and donations will all be donated to Mason and his family. Last year, Flynn raised over 16 thousand for Ainsleigh Carrington, and is expected to eclipse 20 thousand this year. Final totals will be announced at a later date.
The tournament, organized by Flynn Energy and held at Towanda Country Club, was generously sponsored by 18 businesses from the Northeastern, PA region and beyond. The tournament’s highest level sponsors were Panda Liberty LLC–who raffled off a Yeti Cooler, raising $1,020–and Allison Crane & Rigging.
Winners and highlights from the tournament:
- Winning Team & Skins Winners: Beer’s Auto (winnings donated back by Cargill, a tournament sponsor)
- Longest Drive: Tom Coleman
- Closest to the Pin: Mike Cantelopes; won a set of TruBlu Brand wedges
- Stevensville Autobody sponsored a putting contest with a chance to win $5,000.00 which raised $525; donated it all to Mason
- The winner of the 50/50 raffle this year was Dereck Ferris, who donated his 160-dollar winnings to Mason
For surgeries and better treatment plans, Mason requires annual trips to New Orleans and California to see medical experts. These visits can be costly. If you would like to help support Mason, please visit our Mason Barto Donation Form.
